Chiropractic Care

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a form of medicine that uses hands-on treatments to address musculoskeletal problems and nervous system disorders. Doctors of chiropractic — also called chiropractors — are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the spine, joints throughout the body, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nervous system.

Chiropractors don’t prescribe drugs or perform injections or surgeries. Instead, they use noninvasive techniques to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and restore normal motion to joints in the limbs and spine.

What do chiropractors do?

Chiropractors offer complete physical and orthopedic exams for diagnosis purposes along with a range of noninvasive, natural treatment options, such as:

  • Chiropractic adjustments
  • Soft tissue therapy
  • Physical rehabilitation
  • Hot and cold therapy
  • Electrical nerve stimulation
  • Therapeutic ultrasound
  • Athletic taping and Kinesio Taping®
  • Training for better posture, balance, and gait

The chiropractic providers at Bryant Medical Group have extensive training in these modalities to help you recover from pain and injuries as quickly as possible and avoid medications or surgery unless necessary.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is one of the primary treatment options available from chiropractors. The goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to restore normal motion to a joint that isn’t moving properly and may feel to you as if it’s stiff or stuck.

During a chiropractic adjustment, your provider may have you lie on your back, side, or face down on a comfortable padded table. They then place their hands on either side of the joint that’s going to be adjusted. Next, your provider applies a quick, direct force toward your joint. You may feel or hear some popping or cracking, which is a release of naturally occurring carbon dioxide gas from within the joint.

In most cases, patients experience immediate relief following a chiropractic adjustment — which takes less than a minute to perform. You may notice an improved range of motion, less pain, or a feeling of greater relaxation after your adjustment. In some cases, mild soreness for 1-2 days after an adjustment is normal, similar to exercising for the first time.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes. According to the American Chiropractic Association, chiropractic care is widely recognized as one of the safest noninvasive and drug-free options for the treatment of musculoskeletal and nervous system conditions. Since every treatment is tailored to your needs, the team can modify or adapt treatments based on your unique situation so you feel comfortable and safe at all times.
